From 4 June 2027, Haefner Foyer, Chipperfield building
Ai Weiwei
Chinese artist Ai Weiwei (b. 1957, Beijing) explores the history of the Kunsthaus and its collection in an installation created specifically for the Haefner Foyer. Made from thousands of toy building bricks, a monumental panorama unfolds across two floors, bringing together two contrasting visual worlds. Claude Monet’s colourful “Seerosenteich am Abend” from the Kunsthaus collection takes on a new form. Opposite it, a large-scale black-and-white frieze addresses modern warfare and the weapons of attack developed by humankind. Beauty and destruction, art and war come face to face. The installation can be experienced free of charge in the publicly accessible foyer of the Chipperfield building.
